Flowers are beautiful seraphs of nature that fill the environment with happiness and contentment. Flowers like Rose, Lily, Sunflower and Orchids are widely used on various occasions to brighten up the mood and make the aura cheerful. They are also used as jewelry for the bride and as gajra to be bejeweled in the buns. Flowers can often be seen as highlights of various birthday parties, anniversary parties and religious ceremonies but, can one imagine celebrating festivals that are totally dedicated to these vibrantly tinted cherubs? Yes, why not?

  • Feria de las Flores or Spanish Festival of Flowers:

This enticing Spanish festival of flowers is a one of its kind festival in the entire globe. It takes place in Medellín, Colombia and is the most significant social event for the city. It includes flower parades, automobile parades, Paso Fino horse parade and many musical concerts. Historically, the flower parades during the course of the festival represented the end of slavery but in the present day, it showcases men, women and children carrying their silletas i.e. true works of art along the 2.2 kilometer parade route to decorate the artwork with gladiolus, chrysanthemums, lilies, carnations, agapanthus, pansies, sunflowers, orchids and numerous other flowers.

  • Festa da Flor:

This striking flower festival is held in the city of Funchal, the Madeira. This festival remarks the honoring of springtime like a queen, being crowned after Easter. It begins when thousands of children dressed in the appropriate manner assemble to the Praça do Município to take part in the building of a mural of flowers – the Wall of Hope. The festival also includes a flower parade wherein dozens of floats adorned with a countless flowers leave the scents and perfumes in the air. Festa da Flor is also an extravaganza of music, cuisine, arts, etc.

  • Chiang Mai Flower Festival:

This vibrantly colorful flower festival is hosted by the Chiang Mai town in Thailand in the first weekend in February. It is known as the ‘rose of the north’ and showcases varieties of flowers found only in the city like yellow and white chrysanthemums and the Damask Rose. The Flower Parade consisting of floats, traditional dance, Miss Chiang Mai Flower Festival competition and music is the highpoint of the festival.

  • Canadian Tulip Festival:

The Canadian Tulip Festival is held Ottawa, Canada every year in the month of May. The festival claims to be the world’s largest tulip festival, displaying over one million varieties of tulips. During the festival, large displays of tulips are planted throughout the city and the largest display of tulips is found in Commissioners Park. The festival also includes music performances, speakers and exhibitions of international cuisines.

  • Rose Parade:

The captivating Rose Parade in Pasadena, California is one of the most famous flower festivals in the world. It was begun on the New Year Day of 1890 and during it, thousands of people gather on the streets to watch the glitzy parade, filled with floats of different colored roses. The festival includes music shows and various contests like the Rose Bowl, etc. The parade is also known as the ‘Tournament of Roses Parade’ and the ‘Rose Parade presented by Honda’.
