Best Train App on the Google Play Store

Deciding which is the best Train App on the Google Play Store  becomes difficult with numerous train apps making their way to Android. We took the challenge, and decided to evaluate three of the most popular Train Apps on how well they assist in travelling by train, right from planning the trip, to PNR updates and on the overall ease of use and speed!

Rail Yatri – Indian Railways

With this train app, say hello to locating the train via GPS, notifications about delays and cancellations, crowd funded station details and reviews and much more. Sitting at a petite 5.1 MB size, the app is quick and responsive, however lacks a tasteful interface, and can be quite difficult to use, especially on devices with smaller screens. What stands out in this travel app however, is it’s smart ability  to find out trains from the stations near you, but its use case is a big question mark. Our rating: 7 out of 10.

ClearTrip for Android

If booking a train ticket on IRCTC has been driving you crazy, you haven’t heard of the ClearTrip app. Thanks to its tie up with IRCTC, this app allows you to book tickets on your smartphone, making Clear Trip one of the best Train apps on the play store, and a life saver. Two negatives, you can’t book tickets during the Tatkaal window, and the app is a massive 14 MB. This app comes with a cleaner interface and with the usual features of PNR tracking and train timetables, but again, ticket booking is its only claim to fame. Our rating: 8 on 10.

ixig Trains

Right from the time you plan your trip, till the time you deboard the train at your destination, ixigo Trains has almost all the features you could require – making it our choice of the best train app on android. Find trains between destinations, by name, number, date – you name it and the app has it. What’s more, you can also rate and review the trains and stations, and read other travellers’ reviews as well. It also provides you with Train availability, Runnin Status, PNR updates, seat and berth maps and lots more, in a futuristic and easy to use design that’s a treat for the eyes – all this in a mere 3.5 MB (the smallest and the best travel app out of the three). Only if the booking process was integrated into the app, ixig trains would become a winner. We give it a 9 on 10, -1 for the missing booking.

Download these apps on your smartphone, and rest assured, travelling by train is never going to be difficult again- thanks to the best train apps on android.
